Rousseff gives Rio Olympics vote of confidence during major ceremony

The Brazilian President, Dilma Rousseff, assured on Wednesday that Rio de Janeiro would be "the most beautiful setting" for an Olympic Games since classical Greece, while recognizing that there was "a lot still to be done" to get Olympic installations ready.

The head of state took part in a ceremony to celebrate "one year to go" before the opening ceremony of the 2016 Olympic Games. She was joined by Sports Minister George Hilton, Tourism Minister Henrique Eduardo Alves, Rio de Janeiro Mayor Eduardo Paes, International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach and Brazilian Olympic Committee President Carlos Nuzman.

"We will continue to work as there is still a lot to be done. In the next few months, the test events will allow us to correct the remaining details. Together, the federal, state and local governments, together witl the Organizing Committe of the Olympic Games, will create the conditions which we promised the IOC back in 2009," she added.

During the ceremony, Bach also praised the mobility efforts the city had already made. "These Olympic Games will leave a transportation legacy that will benefit residents and tourists. The Rio Games will leave behind the greatest legacy since Barcelona 1992," he concluded. Endi
