A regional branch of China's civil aviation administration decided Tuesday night to suspend operation of a local airport after an incident on a flight originating there.
The eastern branch of the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) asked Taizhou airport in east China's Zhejiang Province to suspend operations starting Wednesday morning, citing civil aviation regulations, and will send a work group to supervise the airport's management.
The suspension was ordered after a passenger was detained for attempting to damage airplane facilities on Shenzhen Airlines flight ZH9648, which departed from Taizhou, as it was landing at Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport at around 1 a.m. last Sunday.
CAAC asked local branches to conduct safety checks on medium-sized, small and new airports after the incident. Endi
