British Prime Minister David Cameron paid tribute to Singapore's founding Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew during an official visit to the city state on Tuesday.

Cameron said Lee's "characteristic energy, determination and vision" took Singapore from independence 50 years ago and made it "one of the greatest success stories of the modern world" at a lecture organized by Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, National University of Singapore.

Cameron also met with top business leaders from Singapore and Britain at a reception on Tuesday evening organized by UK Trade and Investment (UKTI) to promote business links between the two countries, said Singapore's Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement.

Cameron and Grace Fu, Singapore's minister in the Prime Minister's Office, second minister for the environment and water resources and second minister for foreign affairs, witnessed the signing of two agreements.

The two Statements of Intent (SOI) were between the UKTI and the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) with private sector co- signatories, Lloyd's and Aviva, to support the development of regional insurance markets.

Cameron will receive an official welcome at the Istana, the official presidential residence on Wednesday followed by a call on Singapore's President Tony Tan Keng Yam and meeting with Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong who will also host lunch. The two prime ministers will also witness the signing of an agreement on cyber security cooperation. Endi
