In the second quarter of 2015, state-owned telecoms operator France Telecom reported a 0.2 percent decrease in its revenue compared to the 0.9 percent loss reported a quarter earlier, due to a boost in mobile business mainly in Africa and Middle East markets, the firm said Tuesday.
The company said the performance was due to a "rebound of the enterprise segment and the favorable development of mobile services particularly in France and Spain."
After declining 1.8 percent in the first three months, revenues in France Telecom stood at 4.7 billion euros (5.1 billion U.S. dollars) in the second quarter down by 0.8 to a quarter earlier. The data "confirms the gradual improvement of mobile services" in French market which accounts half of the company's total receipts.
In Europe, France Telecom also known as Orange, limited its loss by 1.8 percentage points to 1.7 percent thanks to significant improvement of Spanish market.
Strong growth of mobile services mainly in Ivory Coast, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Egypt and Guinea helped the French operator to generate 1.1 billion euros of revenue, up by 4.7 percent from the January-March period.
"We delivered a very good commercial performance especially in France, Belgium, Romania and throughout the Africa and Middle East region. This dynamic commercial activity is underpinned by significant investment in very high-speed fixed and mobile broadband and the Orange team's daily commitment to our customers," said Stephane Richard, the group chairman.
"This performance has enabled us to stabilize our margin in the first half, excluding regulatory impacts, and even show slight growth in the second quarter. We therefore fully confirm all our financial objectives for 2015," he added.
The French telecoms operator plans to pay a dividend of 0.60 euros per share for 2015. Enditem
