Georgia nominates head of State Security Agency

Xinhua, July 20, 2015 Adjust font size:

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Gharibashvili on Monday nominated former Interior Minister Vakhtang Gomelauri to head the State Security Agency to be set up soon.

The State Security Agency will be established on Aug. 1 and will be subordinate to the government, according to an amendment adopted by parliament.

The agency will be mainly in charge of preventing, exposing and investigating crimes as well as analyzing possible dangers, risks and challenges, according to the Georgian government.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Internal Affairs has been divided into two agencies under a government decision and a law adopted by parliament in early July. A new minister of internal affairs will be nominated in two to three days. Endi
