British Prime Minister David Cameron will outline his new long-term plan to tackle Islamic extremism, warning citizens not to become "cannon fodder" of the "poisonous ideology."
David Cameron is scheduled to unveil the principles to combat extremism and radicalization in a speech in Birmingham on Monday.
"This is what we face: a radical ideology that is not just subversive, but can seem exciting, one that has often sucked people in from non-violence to violence, that is overpowering moderate voices within the debate and which can gain traction because of issues of identity and failures of integration," Cameron is to say in the speech published in advance by British media.
Cameron will warn: "You won't be some valued member of a movement. You are cannon fodder for them,"
"If you are a boy, they will brainwash you, strap bombs to your body and blow you up. If you are a girl, they will enslave and abuse you," he will say.
The prime minister will also use the speech to challenge the idea that Western meddling in the Middle East is to blame for the rise in extremism.
"We need to understand why it is proving so attractive. Some argue it's because of historic injustices and recent wars, because of poverty and hardship. This argument, the grievance justification, must be challenged," he is to say.
"It's groups like ISIL (also known as the Islamic State), al Qaeda and Boko Haram that are the ones murdering Muslims," Cameron will tell the audience.
However, political analysts warn that Cameron's speech could potentially ignite controversy among religious groups who may believe the new actions could be counter-productive and further alienate Muslim communities.
British Home Secretary Theresa May said the government will publish a new counter extremism strategy and make new laws to tackle extremism. Endit
