Seoul shares ended lower on Monday.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) fell 3. 48 points, or 0.17 percent, to 2,073.31 at the close. Trading volume stood at 862.85 million shares worth 5.97 trillion won (5.2 billion U.S. dollars).

SYDNEY -- Australia's share market closed stronger for the fifth straight day Monday, marginally up after a day of subdued trade and scarce local economic news.

At the 4:15 p.m. (AEST) official market close, the benchmark S & P/ASX200 was up 16.8 points, or 0.3 per cent, to 5,686.9 points, while the broader All Ordinaries index gained 16.5 points, or 0.29 per cent, to 5,669 points.

HONG KONG -- Taiwan's share prices closed lower Monday with the weighted index down 70.98 points, or 0.78 percent, to close at 8, 975, according to news reaching here from Taipei.

Turnover totaled 81.15 billion new Taiwan dollars (about 2.61 billion U.S. dollars).

MANILA -- Philippine shares closed 1 percent lower on Monday. The benchmark Philippine Stock Exchange index decreased by 75.96 points to 7541.17. The all-share index went down by 36.78 points, or 0.85 percent, to 4308.78.

Trading volume reached 1.28 billion shares worth 12.76 billion pesos ( 281.91 million U.S. dollars).

SHAGNHAI -- Chinese shares kept recovering on Monday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.88 percent to close at 3, 992.11 points in the day.

The smaller Shenzhen Component Index gained 1.52 percent to close at 13,202.40 points.

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong stocks dropped 10.46 points, or 0.04 percent, to close on Monday at 25,404.81 points.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 25,298.96 and 25, 540.31. Turnover totaled 84.94 billion HK dollars (10.96 billion U. S. dollars).

HO CHI MINH CITY -- VN-Index, the stock market index of Ho Chi Minh (HCM) City bourse in south Vietnam, closed at 620.54 points on Monday, down 8.09 points, or 1.29 percent, against last Friday' s closing session.

About 120.577 million shares worth 2.098 trillion Vietnamese dong (VND) (96.84 million U.S. dollars) changed hands at the southern HCM City Stock Exchange. Prices of 72 stocks went up, 146 stocks fell down, while 66 stocks remained unchanged.

HANOI -- Stock market index of Vietnam's capital Hanoi, HNX- Index, closed at 85.93 points on Monday, down 1.14 points, or 1.31 percent, against the previous trading session.

A total of 54.986 million shares worth 666.577 billion Vietnamese dong (30.86 million U.S. dollars) were traded at the Hanoi Stock Exchange on Monday, a decrease of 15.7 percent in volume and 15.63 percent in value against the previous trading session.

KUALA LUMPUR -- The Malaysian stock market ended lower here on Monday. The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI) closed down 2.60 points or 0.15 percent at 1,724.13, and the Emas closed down 1.64 points or 0.01 percent at 11,886.80.

Turnover increased to 1.52 billion shares valued at 1.55 billion ringgit Malaysia (407.04 million U.S. dollars), compared with 840.75 million shares valued at 1.03 billion ringgit Malaysia (270.48 million U.S. dollars) on last Thursday.

SINGAPORE -- Singapore stocks finished higher on Monday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) up 20.03 points, or 0.60 percent, to close at 3,373.48.

A total of 1.89 billion shares changed hands with turnover of 1. 08 billion Singapore dollars (790.1 million U.S. dollars).

BANGKOK -- The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) index Monday moved down 12.60 points, or 0.85 percent to close at 1,466.71 points.

Some 13.75 billion shares worth 25.25 billion baht (about 740 million U.S. dollars) changed hands.

MUMBAI -- Indian stocks closed lower on Monday on profit booking following a rally in three consecutive sessions.

The benchmark S&P BSE Sensex closed at 28,420.12, 43.19 points or 0.15 percent down from previous close of 28,463.31, with a turnover of 371.40 crore rupees. Endi
