Mass fainting occur at 2 garment factories in Cambodia

Some 82 Cambodian garment workers at two different factories fainted on Tuesday morning, and a labor official cited poor health for the cause of their fainting.
Some 46 workers fainted at Quint Major Industrial (QMI) in Kandal province, while another 36 fainted at CN Prosperous Garment (Cambodia) in Phnom Penh's Por Senchey district, Cheav Bunrith, spokesman for the National Social Security Fund (NSSF), said.
"We preliminarily concluded that workers got fainted because of their poor health," he said, adding that the ill-fated workers were sent to hospitals soon after the incidents, and all were recovering after medical treatment.
Mass fainting has subsequently occurred in Cambodian garment factories. According to the NSSF, some 557 workers got fainted in the first six months of this year, down 38 percent from 896 fainted workers over the same period last year.
Garment and footwear industry, the kingdom's largest foreign currency earner, comprises 1,087 factories with approximately 700, 000 workers, according to the labor ministry.
The sector exported products having a worth of 6.2 billion U.S. dollars last year, accounted for 80.5 percent of the country's total export.
A monthly minimum wage for the sector is 128 U.S. dollars. Endi
