Uganda's netball tune up for warmup games ahead of 2015 World Cup

Xinhua, June 11, 2015 Adjust font size:

Uganda's national netball team is set to have a series of warmup games ahead of the 2015 World Cup slated to take place in Australia in August.

Fred Mugerwa, the head coach told Xinhua on Thursday during the team's training session that the morale is high as they are set to attend the Diamond Challenge in South Africa June 14-21. The event will feature all the African teams that will take part in the World Cup. These include Uganda, South Africa, Malawi and Zambia.

After the Diamond Challenge, the team will also play in Namibia from June 27-July 2, before the World Cup which is slated for Aug. 7-16.

Mugerwa said that since it has taken the country over 30 years to qualify for the World Cup, they want to make an impact by qualifying for the second round.

"We are making sure we prepare well and also have a number of preparatory games in-order to be in shape for the World Cup," he said.

Despite the fact that the Uganda Netball Federation is facing challenges in raising money to facilitate the team, Mugerwa said he is motivating his players to focus more on the sport.

He said although Uganda is an underdog, it should not be underrated. Endi
