MERS deaths rise to 10 in S. Korea as 1 more passes away

One more death from the infection with the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) in South Korea was reported Thursday, bringing the total death toll to 10, the health ministry said.

The 83rd patient, 65, passed away on Thursday afternoon as he had already suffered from a terminal lung cancer, according to the Ministry of Health and Welfare.

The 65-year-old man caught the virus from the 16th patient at the Konyang University Hospital in the central city of Daejeon, and was tested positive on June 7.

MERS infections in South Korea totaled 122 as of Thursday as 14 new cases were added. The first case was found on May 20.

Meanwhile, three confirmed patients were released from hospitals as they were tested negative twice. The number of hospital discharge increased to seven with the three new discharges. Endi
