MERS great concern among Vietnamese: spokesperson

Xinhua, June 11, 2015 Adjust font size:

The Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) has caused great concern among the international community and Vietnamese people, spokesperson of the Foreign Ministry Le Hai Binh said on Thursday.

"Vietnamese relevant agencies have made concerted efforts to implement surveillance measures at border gates," Binh told a press conference about Vietnam's reaction to the fact that the MERS death toll in South Korea has risen to 10.

At the same time, they have anticipated different scenarios that might happen in order to provide specific guidance to local authorities, to prevent and fight against the epidemic, Binh told reporters.

Vietnamese Ministry of Health has also advised local citizens to actively take measures to prevent the disease.

The Foreign Ministry as well as diplomatic missions of Vietnam in foreign countries have given cautions for those who are living in or intend to travel to virus-affected countries like South Korea.

So far, there has been no confirmed information that any Vietnamese nationals are infected with the deadly virus, said Binh, adding that Vietnamese authorities are closely following the situation. Endi
