On July 1 Poland will assume a one year chairmanship of the Council of the Baltic Sea States (CBSS).
As explained by vice-minister of the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Henryka Moscicka-Dendys, Poland aims to attain three priorities during its chairmanship.
The first is the sustainable development of the Baltic Sea region, particularly the cooperation in the fields of green energy and environmental protection. The second is the inter-state cooperation in terms of arts and design. The third is civil safety in the Baltic Sea basin.
Moscicka-Dendys underlined that due to the crisis in Ukraine, Russia was excluded from the high level meeting of the CBSS.
Moscicka-Dendys underlined that the membership in the CBSS is perceived by Poland as one of its two pillars of engagement in the region, the first being the Visegrad Group.
The CBSS was established in 1992. As of 2015, the CBSS consists of 23 member states from the Baltic Sea basin and 11 observers. Endit
