Austrian trade with Russia, Ukraine sees massive slump in Q1

Xinhua, June 10, 2015 Adjust font size:

Austrian foreign trade with both Russia and Ukraine saw a massive decline in the first quarter of 2015, preliminary Statistics Austria figures released Tuesday showed.

The figures show exports to Russia declined 39.8 percent while imports nearly halved, decreasing 48.7 percent. Exports to Ukraine fell an even greater 55.9 percent, while imports declined 31.5 percent.

The overall trade balance for Austria was however positive, total exports in the first quarter increasing 0.7 percent, the 0.3 percent increase in imports leading to a slight decrease in the trade deficit to 1.32 billion U.S. dollars.

The central statistics office said trade with the United States in particular had boomed, imports up 57.7 percent and exports up 21.6 percent. Imports from China also increased a significant 14.1 percent for the quarter, though exports declined 4.6 percent. Endit
