British FTSE 100 drops 0.53 pct on Tuesday

The FTSE 100 Index, the British benchmark stock market gauge, Tuesday decreased by 0.53 percent, or 36.24 points, to 6,753.80 points.

Rising German sovereign debt markets weighed on the London stock index on Tuesday.

The Germany 10-year bond yield continued to edge higher on Tuesday, finishing the day at 0.95 percent.

Royal Mail's share price increased by 2.30 percent, topping the gainers of the blue chips. Mondi, Intu Properties, Reed Elsevier and Randgold Resources Ltd. increased by 1.97 percent, 1.49 percent, 1.41 percent and 1.31 percent respectively.

Pearson led the top losers of the blue chips with a share price drop of 2.38 percent, followed by AstraZeneca (2.01 percent), Anglo American (2.00 percent), RSA Insurance Group (1.48 percent) and CRH (1.48 percent). Endit
