Namibia is sending its men's basketball team, a female sprinter and a marathon runner to the special summer Olympics in Los Angeles in August this year.
Special Olympics World Games focus on the talents and abilities of people with intellectual disabilities to help change attitudes and break down barriers with the mainstream athletics.
The 14th Special Olympics World Summer Games is expected to be attended by more than 7,000 athletes, 3,000 coaches as well as 30,000 volunteers from about 177 countries and regions.
More than 500,000 spectators also expected to grace this year's special games that will feature 25 Olympic-style sports in venues throughout the Los Angeles region.
Namibia Special Olympics chairperson Hanna Garises did not give names of the athletes that have been chosen to represent the country.
She however said initially there were plans to send a football team but this was dropped because of lack of funds.
Although Garises said the team needed more funds, that is not interfering with the preparations.
Namibia has participated in four special summer Olympics - in North Carolina (1999), Ireland (2003), Shanghai (2007) and Athens (2011). Endi
