Hoffenheim sign Basel defender Fabian Schaer

Xinhua, June 4, 2015 Adjust font size:

Hoffenheim reinforced their squad with the signing of FC Basel defender Fabian Schaer, the "TSG" confirmed in an official statement on Thursday.

The 23-year-old Swiss international agreed with Hoffenheim on a contract until June 2019, after putting pen to paper on a four-year deal. It is the second new arrival for Hoffenheim in the summer transfer window.

"With the signing of Fabian Schaer we push on our staff planning for the upcoming season. We found another player who perfectly fits to our requirements. He is a player with a lot of international experience at an early age. Yet he has an enormous potential for development," Hoffenheim' s director of professional soccer Alexander Rosen said.

Schaer played two years at FC Basel to score 15 goals in 110 appearances. The center back scored besides that, five goals in 12 caps for the "Nati", the Swiss national soccer squad.

The 23-year-old talent was linked with other European top-flight clubs. However he opted for the "TSG" as he "found in Hoffenheim the optimal conditions to evolve. They have a young ambitious team and a perfect infrastructure," the new arrival said.

Hoffenheim completed the Bundesliga season 2014-2015 on the 8th place of the standings. Endi
