U.S. initial jobless claims fall to 276,000

Xinhua, June 4, 2015 Adjust font size:

The number of Americans initially applying for unemployment aid fell last week, as the job market keeps tight.

In the week ending May 30, the advance figure of seasonally adjusted initial claims for jobless benefits fell to 276,000, 8,000 less than the revised level of the previous week, the U.S. Labor Department said Thursday.

There were no special factors impacting this week's initial claims, said the department.

Meanwhile, the four-week moving average, which helps smooth out week-to-week volatility, edged up by 2,750 to 274,750 last week. The advance figure of seasonally adjusted insured unemployment during the week ending May 23 dropped by 30,000 from the previous week to 2,196,000.

U.S. private companies added 201,000 jobs in May, up from 165,000 jobs in April, said the National Employment Report released Wednesday jointly by Automatic Data Processing and Moody's Analytics, based on a monthly survey. Endi
