Over 100 killed in fuel station explosion in Ghana's capital

Xinhua, June 4, 2015 Adjust font size:

Over 100 people have been killed in an explosion at a fuel station in downtown of Ghana's capital Accra on Thursday, official of the fire service confirmed.

Prince Billy Anaglatey, the deputy public relations officer of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) said the agency was alerted last night but has not been able to put out the fire until Thursday morning.

Rescue workers are still retrieving bodies from debris of the station owned by Ghana's state oil company GOIL.

Witnesses said many victims were taking shelter at the station due to days of heavy downpours that have triggered widespread flood and paralyzed public transport in the city. Endi
