Xinhua, June 4, 2015 Adjust font size:

The Philippine government extended Thursday its sympathy to China and its people following Monday's fatal ship accident on the Yangtze River.

"The Filipino nation shares the grief of the Chinese government and people during this difficult time," the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said in a statement.

"We wish our Chinese friends the grace, strength and fortitude as they conduct search and rescue operations."

The Filipino people hope and pray that the Chinese people recover swiftly from this tragic incident, the department added.

According to the latest figures released by the Chinese authorities Thursday afternoon, 75 people are confirmed dead in the incident while 14 survivors have been found.

Over 450 people were on board the Eastern Star when it sank on Monday night after being hit by a tornado in Jianli, Hubei Province. Endi
