Jordan kicks off regional campaign to boost tourism

Jordan launched on Tuesday a regional campaign to promote its tourist attractions amid a decline in the number of visitors, official news agency Petra reported.
Jordan started a promotional marketing campaign in the Arab world and in the Gulf in particular to attract tourists into the country and to promote itself as a safe destination, the state-owned Jordan Tourism Board said.
The campaign targets several countries including the UAE, Bahrain and Qatar, it added.
Jordan has been actively taking part in several events and exhibitions to promote tourism, which has been witnessing a decline since the start of the so-called Arab Spring in 2011.
During the first four months of 2015, tourism revenues hit 1.2 billion U.S. dollars, down 14.7 percent compared to the same period of last year, according to Jordan's Ministry of Tourism.
Minister of Tourism Nayef Fayez has recently attributed the decline to the developments in the Middle East and to inaccurate media reports that prompt foreign embassies to warn their citizens against visiting Jordan. Endit
