U.S. defense chief arrives in India on 3-day visit

U.S. Secretary of Defense Ashton Carter arrived in India Tuesday on his first visit to the South Asian country since taking office in February, said local media.
Carter arrived in Visakhapatnam in the southeastern state of Andhra Pradesh on a three-day tour, during which he will visit the Eastern Naval Command of Indian Navy before arriving in Delhi later in the day.
He is expected to meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday besides holding talks with his Indian counterpart Manohar Parrikar, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, said Indo-Asian News Service.
The two sides are expected to sign a renewal for 10-year defense cooperation framework agreement.
The United States is also planning to provide carrier and jet engine technologies to India, according to official sources. Endi
