UAE's SAIF Zone seeks stronger trade ties with China

Xinhua, May 19, 2015 Adjust font size:

The Sharjah Airport International Free Zone (SAIF) targets a larger share of China's trade with the United Arab Emirates and seeks to lure more multinationals in the food and beverage sector, its director Saud Salim Al-Mazrouei said on Tuesday.

"China is a very crucial trade partner for Sharjah as both sides achieved a growth rate of 10 percent last year in bilateral trade," said Mazrouei, who attended a major food and beverage show in Shanghai early May.

The attendance at the event was "aimed to strengthen our efforts to attract international investments to the SAIF Zone," state news agency WAM quoted Mazrouei as saying.

He said that trade and investment ties between China and Sharjah have grown considerably, and the emirate has been a facilitator of trade between the UAE and China.

Currently, there are over 100 food and beverage companies in the SAIF Zone that houses 6,800 companies from 149 nations, Mazrouei said. Endit
