Albania asked to advance rule of law for its EU accession bid

The European Union (EU) said Monday that Albania should have done better to strengthen the rule of law in the country, the Albanian Daily News reported.
At an annual meeting evaluating progress Albania has made in the past year in its bid for EU membership, the European Commission noted that the country has done pretty well in its fight against corruption and organized crimes, as well as in the reform of the judiciary system.
However, not much has been achieved to advance the rule of law, or to promote adherence to the law in economic affairs, the commission said.
Albanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Ditmir Bushati said Albania is committed to fulfilling measures and criteria identified jointly with the European Commission.
"The accession process is a guide for the state building reforms as well as for the economic entrepreneurship in the country," he was quoted as saying.
"We are keen to discuss with the commission a sequence and a timetable of steps that need to be undertaken," he added. Endi
