Former Pentagon spokesman appointed U.S. State Department spokesman

Xinhua, May 14, 2015 Adjust font size:

Former Pentagon Press Secretary John Kirby was appointed the new U.S. State Department spokesman, Secretary of State John Kerry said Wednesday.

In a statement, Kerry praised Kirby's "impeccable judgment, collegiality, and character," adding that he is "the perfect person to help tell America's story to the world."

Kirby is replacing Jen Psaki, who left the position in March after two years to become White House communications director.

Kirby, a two-star naval officer, served as the Defense Department spokesman from 2013 until February when he stepped down after new Defense Secretary Ashton Carter said he wanted a civilian in the role of chief spokesman.

Before that, Kirby had worked for former Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Admiral Mike Mullen. Endite
