Singapore's PM congratulates Cameron on re-election

Xinhua, May 8, 2015 Adjust font size:

Singapore's Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong offered warmest congratulations to British Prime Minister David Cameron on his re-election in a letter on Friday.

"It was a hard fight but the British people have placed their trust in your leadership." PM Lee wrote in the letter. He said that under Cameron's stewardship, Britain took difficult decisions and emerged from the financial crisis as the fastest growing economy in the G7.

Lee said Singapore and Britain are longstanding partners, which was highlighted during the state visit by President Tony Tan Keng Yam to Britain last year.

He said the partnership between Singapore and Britain is underpinned by shared history and common interests in business, defence, education and scientific research, which is also founded upon strong people-to-people links and cultural ties. He expressed his willingness to continue working with the re-elected prime minister to take the partnership forward.

Lee invited Cameron to visit Singapore again, and wished him continued success. Endi
