RAF Typhoons arrive in Estonia for NATO Baltic air policing mission

Britain's four Royal Air Force (RAF) Typhoon aircraft arrived in Estonia to enhance NATO's Baltic Air Policing mission, NATO said in a press release Thursday.

Deployed to Amari Air Base in Estonia, the Typhoons will augment the four Norwegian aircraft fleet along with Italian and Belgian jets to safeguard the air space of the Baltic states through to the end of August.

NATO has increased the military presence in the eastern part of it's alliance in response to the Ukraine crisis.

The Estonian minister for foreign affairs welcomed the RAF's presence in the country as a "demonstration of Alliance solidarity," the press release said.

NATO Baltic Air Policing missions have been carried out since 2004 with NATO Allies taking turns deploying their interceptors and staff in the Baltic States. Endit
