Malaysia's PKR retains Permatang Pauh seat

Xinhua, May 7, 2015 Adjust font size:

Malaysia's opposition People's Justice Party (PKR) retained on Thursday the Permatang Pauh parliamentary seat, with its president Wan Azizah Wan Ismail winning a majority 8,841 votes, reported Bernama, the country's state news agency.

Wan Azizah took the seat with 30,316 votes, a reduced majority of 8,841 votes compared to 11,721 obtained during the 13th general election.

Suhaimi Sabudin, candidate of the ruling coalition Barisan Nasional (BN), garnered 21,475 votes, followed by independent candidate Salleh Isahak with 367 and Parti Rakyat Malaysia's Azman Shah Othman with 101.

The Permatang Pauh seat was declared vacant after its incumbent Anwar Ibrahim was disqualified as a member of parliament when a royal pardon sought by his family was rejected by the pardons board over his conviction for sodomising former aide Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan. Endi
