Turkey recalls envoy in Luxembourg over genocide resolution

Turkey recalled its ambassador to Luxembourg in protests and summoned Luxembourg's ambassador to Ankara to express unease about a resolution passed by Luxembourg parliament recognizing the mass killings of Armenians by the Ottoman Empire during the World War I as "genocide."
Turkey "strongly condemned and refuted" a resolution adopted by the parliament of Luxembourg on Wednesday, said a statement released by the Turkish Foreign Ministry on Thursday.
The decision of the parliament of Luxembourg on Armenian allegations is "distorting historical facts and law," said the statement.
The move of Luxembourg came after a series of countries including Austria and Russia took decisions in their parliaments describing the events of 1915 as genocide in the centennial of mass killings of Armenians.
Turkey, in protest, has recalled its ambassadors in these countries for consultations.
Armenia and Turkey disagree over the "genocide" claims, in which 1.5 million Armenians in Ottoman Turkey were killed during World War I.
Now more than 20 countries have adopted resolutions in their parliaments describing 1915 killings as "genocide." Endit
