A declaration was approved by 124 legislators in Slovak Parliament on Thursday in anticipation of the 70th anniversary of the end of WWII.

The declaration said the victory over Nazism and fascism in World War II was the most significant event in the 20th century, and this victory should be marked with due respect and gratitude.

"People in Slovakia highly respect the sacrifice of all soldiers and partisans and express their high esteem for all surviving war veterans who liberated our territory from Nazism. The Parliament of the Slovak Republic voices its sincere gratitude to all nations from the then Soviet Union who made the biggest sacrifices, as well as to individuals from other nations and ethnic groups that contributed to the defeat of Nazism," reads the declaration.

Parliament further acknowledged all civilian casualties and commemorated all the victims of Nazi ideology persecuted during the Second World War. Endit
