Belgian footballer Gregory Mertens dies after heart attack during game

24-year-old Gregory Mertens, Belgian center-back of the football club Sporting Lokeren who collapsed after 20 minutes of play on Monday in a match, died on Thursday, according to the Oost-Limburg Genk hospital.

On Monday evening, the young footballer had a cardiac arrest during a game in Genk. He was supported by emergency doctors and then put into an artificial coma. Doctors said he was in a "desperate" situation.

Gregory Mertens had worn many times the jersey of the Belgian national team in Espoirs. Endit
