First batch of Chinese aid material arrives in Nepal

The first military plane carrying aid materials from the Chinese government arrived in Kathmandu, Nepal's capital, at 11 a.m. local time on Tuesday, according to China's Foreign Ministry.

The aid is part of 186 tons of aid pledged by China and includes tents, blankets and electric generators, which will be sent to Nepal in batches.

Chinese Foreign Minister spokesperson Hong Lei told a regular press briefing that 170 people from the military also arrived in Kathmandu on Monday evening to conduct rescue and medical work, the other 45 people will fly to Nepal by military plane on Tuesday.

Hong said Kathmandu airport is quite busy. Aircraft from several countries carrying rescue teams and materials are waiting for Nepal to coordinate their landing time.

China will keep close communication with Nepal to try to allow aid to arrive in Nepal as early as possible, the spokesperson noted.

More than 2,000 Chinese citizens are back in China via commercial flights. China's airlines will continue transporting the rest, Hong said. Endi
