FTSE 100 close higher on Tuesday

FTSE 100 Index, British benchmark stock market gauge, Tuesday increased by 1.88 percent, or 128.31 points, to 6,961.77 points.

The London stock index surged on Tuesday as investors returned with a bullish mood after the Easter weekend and the good economic data from both Britain and the euro zone.

The Confederation of British Industry (CBI) Tuesday estimated that British domestic gross production in the first quarter of 2015 to have expanded by 0.7 percent, up from 0.6 percent in the previous quarter.

The final Markit Eurozone PMI Composite Output Index increased to 54.0 in March, up from its February level of 53.3, marking a 11-month high in March, data from Markit showed Tuesday.

BG Group's share price increased by 6.74 percent, topped the gainers of the blue chips. Shire, Rio Tinto, Coca-Cola HBC AG and Royal Dutch Shell 'B' increased by 4.36 percent, 4.03 percent, 3.91 percent and 3.86 percent respectively.

International Consolidated Airlines Group SA led the top losers of the blue chips with a share price drop of 1.17 percent, followed by Direct Line Insurance Group (0.25 percent) and Burberry Group (0.06 percent).

The index has gained 7.32 percent so far this year when measured in U.S. dollar. Endit
