Hosts China booked their first win at the IIHF Ice Hockey Women's World Championship DIV I Group B here on Tuesday after beating DPR Korea 5-2.
Earlier today, Slovakia defeated the Netherlands 3-2 while Hungary outclassed Italy 2-1 with Dorottya Medgyes scored the winner in the 47:06.
With high expectations by fans at home and the 3-4 debacle received from the Netherlands in the first game, the Chinese team geared up around captain Sun Rui and goalie Zhang Mengyin to face against DPR Korea.
Zhang Mengying opened the scoring only 0:45 after the game began as she sent the puck in with a close-range shot from the left side on Sun's pass. The 22-year-old Zhang then lifted China 2-0 up at 5:30 with another accurate shot.
Kong Minghui scored China's third gold 9:58 after a mixup in the DPR Korea's defense.
Ryu Hyon Mi of DPR Korea pulled one point back in 10:32 but only saw Zhang finished her hat-trick with a backhand shot to make it 4-1 in 11:57.
China dominated the second and third period and finished their second game of the tournament with an easy 5-2 win.
"It is a good game today, especially we lost our opening game to the Netherlands yesterday," said Zhang, "Now we have one win in hand and we will face the next opponent Hungary in a relaxed mood." Endi
