Knee injury to sideline Muniain for seven months

Xinhua, April 7, 2015 Adjust font size:

Athletic Club Bilbao have suffered an important setback with the news that forward Iker Muniain will be out for seven months after breaking his cruciate knee ligament.

The 22-year-old, who has one Spain cap and played 31 times for the Spain Under-21-side as well as forming part of their side for the 2012 Olympic Games, damaged his left knee in the closing minutes of his side's 2-0 defeat away to Sevilla on Saturday.

He was challenged by Sevilla midfielder Ever Banega, and his foot appeared to get stuck on the playing surface, causing his knee to twist and consequently damage the ligament.

The footballer, who has already made over 200 appearances for his club in all competitions, will miss the rest of this season, including the final of the King's Cup away to FC Barcelona on May 30, and will also be unavailable for the kick off the 2015-16 campaign in August. Endi
