Israel says new missile defense system operational by 2016

Xinhua, April 2, 2015 Adjust font size:

A new Israeli missile defense system may enter service as early as next year, the Israel Defense Ministry announced Wednesday.

"David's Sling" or "Magic Wand" was successfully tested and could become operational as early as 2016, the ministry said in a statement.

The new system will undergo a final test in the near future, the ministry added.

It pointed out that the new system will provide protection against medium to long-range missiles ranging from 40 to 300 km away.

"The success of the test marks an important milestone in Israel's operational capability to defend itself against the type of threats that are expected in the area," it said. Endit
