Positive start of new month on Ibex-35 stock market

Spain's Ibex-35 stock market enjoyed a positive start to the new month on Wednesday as it experienced a rise of 0.42 percent.

The Ibex began the day's trading at 11,521.10 points and closed at 11,569.80 points, close to its highest level in the last five years.

The banking sector led the way with shares in Banco Popular rising by 2.76 percent, Banco Sabadell 2.06 percent, BBVA 1.93 percent and Bankia 1.67 percent.

Meanwhile Gas Natural, which was Tuesday's poorest performer, recovered value as shares rose by 1.43 percent.

While the banking sector performed strongly, construction suffered during the day with companies such as OHL losing 1.97 percent, Arcelor 1.44 percent and ACS 1.23 percent.

Meanwhile the Spanish risk premium was down 0.29 percent to 102.9 points, while the interest on the 10-year-bond ended the day at 1.19 percent. Endit
