Over 140 U.S. soldiers have arrived in Latvia in the latest Operation Atlantic Resolve rotation, Latvian military news website Sargs.lv reported on Wednesday.

Soldiers with the 3rd Infantry Division who have arrived from Georgia, U.S., and troops with 173rd Infantry Brigade who had been stationed in Vicenza, Italy, are replacing soldiers of the 2nd Cavalry Regiment of the U.S. Army whose home station is in Vilseck, Germany.

The U.S. troops arrived at the Adazi military base outside Riga to train with Latvian servicemen for the next three months.

During their stay in Latvia, the soldiers of the 2nd Cavalry Regiment also trained with their Latvian colleagues and participated in the multinational exercise Operation Summer Shield XII.

The U.S. launched Operation Atlantic Resolve to demonstrate its continued commitment to the peace and stability in the Baltic states and Poland and to reassure NATO's Eastern European allies in light of the crisis in east Ukraine. Endit
