Foreigners to pay more at public sports facilities in Singapore

Xinhua, April 1, 2015 Adjust font size:

Foreigners in Singapore who want to work out using public facilities might have to expend more, local press reported Wednesday.

Under the new fee structure, public sports facilities managed by Sport Singapore (SportSG) will charge foreigners a higher rate from May 1, the Strait Times said.

All the concessions for the senior, children and family members accompanying senior citizens will also only apply to Singaporeans and Permanent Residents only, it said.

"The new and higher standard rates will only apply to non- residents, so that there is a differentiation in what non- residents pay and what Singaporeans and Permanent Residents pay to use the facilities," said Lai Chin Kwang, SportSG's chief of sports club group.

As an example, entry into ActiveGym for locals will be 2.5 Singapore dollars (1.82 U.S. dollars) while 3.3 Singapore dollars (2.41 U.S. dollars) for foreigners. The revised rates will be given to users at all ActiveSG sports centres, it said. Endi
