New cars sales rise in Spain in March

Xinhua, April 1, 2015 Adjust font size:

The number of new cars sold in Spain in March rose by 40 percent when compared with the same month in 2014, confirmed the associations of car manufacturers, salesrooms and concessions (Anfac, Ganvan and Faconauto) on Wednesday.

March ended with a total of 112,299 new vehicles sold in Spain; 40 percent higher than a year ago, the number of new cars sold passed the 100,000 mark for the first time since June 2010.

The March figures mean that the first quarter of 2015 ended with a total of 267,137 new cars having been sold, 32.2 percent up on the first three months of last year.

A total of 136,898 of those cars were sold to individual consumers (30.2 percent up on a year ago), while 63,601 were sold to companies (a 27.4 percent rise). The car hire sector accounted for 66,725 units and an impressive 41.8 percent rise, as companies renew their fleets ahead of the spring holiday season.

In a joint press statement, Anfac, Ganvan and Faconauto highlighted that this positive trend is expected to improve as the "internal market is stronger," but highlights that the government's plan PIVE, which is designed to promote the purchase of new vehicles, needs to continue in order to stimulate the market "until the economy and unemployment have been established at lower levels."
