NATO crisis bodies exercise starts in Prague

Xinhua, March 5, 2015 Adjust font size:

The biggest exercise of NATO's crises bodies started Wednesday, Czech Defense Ministry spokesman Petr Medek said Wednesday.

The exercise is focusing on consultation and decision making in dealing with emerging crises.

Medek said the event is important given the worsening global security situation. He said the goal of the regular exercise, named Crisis Management Exercise (CMX), is to review the Alliance and national crisis management procedures at the strategic political and military level.

This year's exercise deals with a fictitious crisis arising between two states in the Indian Ocean which are not NATO members. Medek said the exercise is fictional but plausible.

The exercise will last until March 10, involving all NATO members and Finland, Sweden, Australia, Japan and Ukraine. Other states and organizations have observer status.

This is the 19th CMX exercise since 1992. As it is a command-type exercise, military units are not deployed. Endit
