Tokyo shares ended higher Thursday with its benchmark Nikkei index closing at a fresh near 15-year high on news saying Japan's public servant pension fund will boost investment in domestic stocks.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average jumped 200.59 points, or 1. 08 percent, higher from Wednesday at 18,785.79, its highest closing level since April 2000.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 14.06 points, or 0.93 percent, at 1, 521.68, the highest close since December 2007.
