Botswana's inflation drops to 3.6%

Xinhua, February 17, 2015 Adjust font size:

Botswana's national annual inflation continued to drop to 3.6 percent in January, country's data authority said Monday.

The figure fell 0.2 percent from 3.8 percent last December, said Statistics Botswana.

The downward movement of annual inflation rate in the past 12 months was attributed to a drop in prices of some commodities.

The inflation rates for regions between last December and January, showed that cities and towns declined to 3.6 from 3.8 percent, urban villages decreased to 3.7 from 3.8 percent while rural villages went up to 3.7 from 3.6 percent.

The Minister of Finance Kenneth Matambo has said Botswana's inflation is expected to remain within the Bank of Botswana's objective range in the medium term due to moderate pressure on domestic prices. Endi
