Tokyo stocks dropped 0.10 percent Tuesday as profit taking and uncertainty over Greece's debt negotiations weighed on market sentiment.

The 225-issue index was down 17.68 points, or 0.10 percent, from Monday at 17,987.09. But the broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange gained 2.64 points, or 0.18 percent, to 1,462.07.

The turnover was 2,249.4 billion yen (about 18.98 billion U.S. dollars).

BEIJING -- Chinese stocks rose for a seventh consecutive trading day on Tuesday, the last trading day before the week-long Spring Festival holiday.

The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index rose 0.76 percent to end at 3,246.91 points. The Shenzhen Component Index gained 1.06 percent to end at 11,718.56.

Total turnover on the two bourses shrank to 512.72 billion yuan (83.6 billion U.S. dollars) from 541 billion yuan the previous trading day. Some 70 stocks rose by the daily trading limit.

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong stocks moved up 58.35 points, or 0.24 percent, to close on Tuesday at 24,784.88 points.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 24,653.88 and 24, 855.75. Turnover totaled 46.72 billion HK dollars (about 6.02 billion U.S. dollars).

---- SYDNEY -- The Australian share market closed softer on Tuesday following weakness in the financial sector and flat company results saw investors back off from stocks.

At the official Tuesday market close, the benchmark S&P/ASX200 index dropped 30.5 points or 0.52 percent to 5,858.2, while the broader All Ordinaries index lost 27.2 points or 0.46 percent to 5, 822.3.

SEOUL -- Seoul shares ended higher on Tuesday.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) rose 3. 22 points, or 0.16 percent, to 1,961.45 at the close. Trading volume stood at 298.18 million shares worth 3.46 trillion won (3. 14 billion U.S. dollars).

VIENTIANE -- The Lao stock market finished on Tuesday down 0.67 percent against the previous trading day.

The Lao Securities Exchange composite index decreased by 9.42 points to 1,405.25. A total of 28,001 shares worth about 153 million Lao kip (about 19,000 U.S. dollars) changed hands at the stock market.

MANILA -- Philippine shares closed 0.11 percent higher on Tuesday.

The benchmark Philippine Stock Exchange index increased by 8.75 points to 7793.40. The all-share index went up by 12.50 points, or 0.28 percent, to 4522.65.

Trading volume reached 1.72 billion shares worth 6.65 billion pesos (150.28 million U.S. dollars).

SINGAPORE -- Singapore stocks finished lower on Tuesday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) down 11.25 points, or 0.33 percent, to close at 3,415.91.

A total of 955.1 million shares changed hands with turnover of 935.8 million Singapore dollars (690.6 million U.S. dollars).

KUALA LUMPUR -- The Malaysian stock market ended mixed here on Tuesday.

The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index was at 1,810.09 up 1.20 points or 0.07 percent, and the Emas was at 12,462.24 down 0.30 of a point or 0.002 percent.

Turnover declined to 1.67 billion shares valued at 1.49 billion ringgit Malaysia (415.33 million U.S. dollars), compared with 2.06 billion shares valued at 2.12 billion ringgit Malaysia (591.85 million U.S. dollars) on Monday.

BANGKOK -- The Stock Exchange of Thailand index on Tuesday moved down 20.29 points, or 1.26 percent to close at 1,587.75 points.

Some 14.62 billion shares worth 50.31 billion baht (about 1.55 billion U.S. dollars) changed hands.

DHAKA -- Bangladesh's DSEX (Dhaka Stock Exchange) Broad Index closed at 4,800.41 points on Tuesday, up 30.93 points or about 0. 65 percent from Monday.
