Xinhua, February 6, 2015 Adjust font size:

French national Pierre Martin Viator, 57, has been imprisoned for 18 years and fined 3,330 U.S. dollars after being found guilty of drug trafficking by a Mauritius court, judicial sources said Thursday.

His two Mauritian accomplices were sentenced for 16 years and 14 years respectively, and each fined 2,500 dollars for the same crime.

Viator was arrested on Oct. 19, 2011 when he arrived in Mauritius from France aboard an Air Mauritius flight.

This is the second imprisonment of a French national in Mauritius for drug trafficking in less than one week.

On Jan. 30, a French national Aurore Gros-Croissy was sentenced to 20 years in prison and fined 1,600 dollars for importation of drugs. She was arrested in 2011 when she arrived in the country from France with 1,673 tablets of Subutex.

Four other French nationals have been imprisoned in recent years in Mauritius for periods ranging from 15 to 20 years for involvement in drug trafficking. Endi
