Mass rallies held across Jordan against IS

Xinhua, February 6, 2015 Adjust font size:

housands of Jordanians took to the streets on Friday calling for revenge for the killing of a Jordanian pilot by the Islamic State (IS).

After midday prayers in downtown Amman, more than 5,000 Jordanians held a demonstration with the participation of Queen Rania Al Abdullah of Jordan.

"Death to the Islamic State. Death to their supporters. We will take revenge," chanted the demonstrators as they were holding Jordanian flags and pictures of King Abdullah II of Jordan and the killed pilot.

Yehua Soud, a lawmaker who took part in the event, said "We are here to send a message to the terrorists of the IS. We will kill them and take revenge."

As the demonstration started, several local media reports indicated that the Jordanian fighter jets launched air strikes against the IS in Mousel in Iraq, killing 35 IS fighters.

In Karak, the hometown of the killed pilot, thousands demonstrated in condemnation of the killing of the pilot who was burnt alive in a cage by the IS. He was captured late last year after his plane crashed over Raqqah in Syria. Endit
