Interview: Belgian SMEs "very popular" in China: Belgian ambassador

Xinhua, February 6, 2015 Adjust font size:

Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) from Belgium are "very popular" in China, Belgian Ambassador to China Michel Malherbe told Xinhua during an interview on Thursday.

Belgium is very popular in China for its SME's with a high technological content in line with its universities, according to the Belgian ambassador, who returned to Belgium for a diplomatic meeting here.

What makes these SME's attractive is their approach to green technology, such as water, air or soils purification, and also pharmaceutical, chemical and logistics, Malherbe said.

In particular, Belgian diamond and food products, such as Belgian beer, are well known, and can be found on every street in China, he said.

Bilateral trade is strongly favored by China, according to the ambassador, China now imports more Belgian products.

Nevertheless, the ambassador said of the two countries, "We can speak of a positive and balanced trade situation", adding that this was backed by excellent political relations, a fact which is evident in the economic cooperation between the two countries. Endit
