Albania's trade deficit record year-on-year increase of 7.9 pct

Albania's trade deficit reached 35 billion Albanian Lek (about 282 million U.S. dollar) in December, registering a year-on-year increase of 7.9 percent, local media reported on Wednesday.

The figure also represents a month-on-month increase of 29.8 percent, Albanian telegraphic agency reported, citing figures released by Albanian Institute of Statistics (INSTAT).

Exports of goods fell by 10.5 percent in December 2014 compared to December 2013 and by 10.4 percent compared to November 2014, according to the INSTAT.

In December 2014, imports of goods declined by 8.8 percent compared to December 2013 and increased by 12 percent compared with November 2014.

Trade exchanges with EU countries represent 65.1 percent of the total trade volume of Albania. Albania's major trading partners are Italy, Turkey, China and Greece, the bilateral trade with which accounted for 35.9 percent, 7 percent, 6.8 percent and 6.5 percent, respectively, of Albania's total trade volume.
