Lithuania secures second contract to supply Estonia with natural gas

Xinhua, January 29, 2015 Adjust font size:

Lithuania's state controlled natural gas supply and trading company LITGAS on Wednesday announced a second agreement to provide Estonia with natural gas supplies.

LITGAS said it signed the contract with Estonia's state-owned energy company Eesti Energia.

"We are delighted to have concluded an agreement with Eesti Energia, which is one of the largest natural gas consumers in Estonia, and contribute to the beginning of the diversification of its supply portfolio," said Dominykas Tuckus, general manager of LITGAS, in a statement.

According to the company, the natural gas supplies will be provided to Eesti Energia as of March 2015.

It's the second contract signed by LITGAS and Estonian companies on natural gas supplies in two days.

On Tuesday, LITGAS signed a contract with Reola Gaas to provide the company with natural gas supplies as of February.

LITGAS is also in talks with other Estonian companies, the company said in a statement.

The natural gas supplies will be provided from the new liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal in Klaipeda seaport, which started its commercial operations this year.

Estonian companies will receive the supplies via a pipeline in Latvia. The possibility to deliver natural gas to Estonia from the Lithuanian LNG terminal was tested in December. Endit
