A UN adviser on Yemen on Friday met in Sanaa, the Yemeni capital, with Yemeni President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi and Houthi representatives to promote inclusive consultations, the UN spokesperson's office said here.

In a note to the media, the office confirmed that the Special Adviser of the UN Secretary-General on Yemen Jamal Benomar met with President Hadi, Prime Minister Khaled Bahah and Houthi representatives on Friday.

"His consistent message to all political parties is that they need to engage in inclusive consultations with each other that will produce an agreement on how to move forward from the current crisis," said the office.

Benomar also met with diplomatic community in Sanaa. "In the immediate term, he will continue to actively engage with all parties and is seeking to meet with different political groupings in the coming days," the office added.

Hadi on Thursday night submitted his resignation to the parliament amid standoff with the Shiite Houthi group who controls the capital, one day after a peace deal signed between the government and the militant group.

In a statement obtained by Xinhua, the Yemeni parliament on Thursday night rejected Hadi's resignation and called for holding an emergency session on Sunday to resolve the crisis. Endite
