Algerian forces arrest two militants in crackdown near border

Algerian Defense Ministry on Friday said two militants were arrested in southern part of the country in two separate operations.

The source specified that the first militant was arrested in the province of El Oued, near the southern border with Tunisia, adding that this wanted militant belongs to a foreign terrorist group.

The second militant was arrested in In Amenas locality near border with Libya, as army troops retrieved an automatic gun, ammunition and communication devices.

The Defense Ministry's statement added that army troops in the southernmost localities of Tamenrasset and Bordj Badji Mokhtar arrested on Wednesday 46 smugglers of different African nationalities, including 12 Algerians, 18 Sudanese, 11 Negeriens, 3 Libyans, one Chadian, and one Mauritanian.

The troops retrieved five four-wheel drive vehicles, 21 metal detector devices, many communication devices, and a considerable load of fuel. Endit
